Having difficulty downloading?

What steps should be taken if the download fails? The file sizes of the downloadable installers for VMLAB are large. If your download fails, try again later at a time when the network has less traffic. 

There are several possible reasons that may stop the download before completion. Most of these issues can be resolved by downloading the trial again. The following is a list of common causes that may result in an unsuccessful download: 

• A corrupt cabinet file is usually a sign of an incomplete download, usually due to network interference during the download. 
• The installer can be corrupted during the downloading process.
• There is not space available on your drive to expand the installer into the default TEMP directory - try clearing this folder and freeing up hard drive space.
• There is a software conflict with third party software.
• Virus software might misidentify the downloaded file.

Orientative download timeframes.

It is difficult to determine the exact amount of time it takes to download a file because there are many factors that can affect the download speed  such as connection type and network traffic. However, the table below contains a list of estimated download times for different sized files and typical connection type. Keep in mind that these are only rough estimates and that your actual download time may vary.

What to do when you receive a Corrupt Cabinet File error message ?

When you encounter a Corrupt Cabinet File message while attempting to extract files from an archive, it usually means that the archive file was corrupted during the download process. We suggest downloading the file again.

Common errors during download:

There are a number of reasons why you might receive an error message during the download process or find that the process hangs. Here are just a few examples:

• The Web site's server could be very busy.
• Internet traffic could be heavy. 
• The installer can be corrupted during the downloading process.
• There could be line noise on your telephone connection.
• The file could be corrupt.

Solutions to common download errors: 

• Disconnect from the Internet, reconnect, and attempt the download again (sorry for this unprofessional advice, but it does work!).
• If you encounter the problem again, you might want to try downloading the file from another server (USA/Europe).
• If you still have a problem downloading the file, you might want to try again at a later time. 
• Try decreasing the data transmission speed before downloading. 

How to decrease the data transmission speed before downloading in Windows: 

• Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and open Modems. 
• Click Properties and select the Connection tab. 
• Click Port Settings and bring the Receive Buffer slider down a notch. 
• Hit OK and try your download again. 
• Once your file has been successfully received, you can go back in and increase the buffer settings back to where they were. 

Typically, this is caused by noise on the phone line. In this situation, you should delete the archive and download the file again. If that doesn't help, try decreasing the data transmission speed before downloading using the method described above.
