Hi,

See that several lines above the error message there is a warning
saying "TARGET directive ignored....." This is a clue for your problem
Your first file in the ASM chain is what determines the target name

Try and se.... ;)

Hmm. That is strange indeed. You're not running VMLAB from a read-only directory by any chance?

Try running the assembler from the command line like this:
C:\>cd vmlab\tutorial

C:\VMLAB\tutorial>..\bin\ast6 -l -x -m -s step01.asm
ST6 MACRO-ASSEMBLER version 4.50  - July 1996
*** SUCCESS ***
Execution time: 0 second(s)

C:\VMLAB\tutorial>dir step01.*
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 887E-23BE

Directory of C:\VMLAB\tutorial

04/15/2000  11:21 PM             2,120 STEP01.ASM
11/26/2010  12:34 AM               359 STEP01.DSD
11/26/2010  12:34 AM               126 STEP01.HEX
11/26/2010  12:34 AM             8,613 STEP01.LIS
05/21/1999  11:01 PM               404 STEP01.LY1
03/29/2000  02:27 PM             1,035 step01.prj
11/26/2010  12:34 AM               112 STEP01.SYM
11/26/2010  12:34 AM               720 STEP01.X
              8 File(s)         13,489 bytes
              0 Dir(s)  31,257,604,096 bytes free
I'd like to know if all of those files are getting generated for you.
